Today, our team of four — our leader Xingtian, two male colleagues, and myself as the only woman on this test team — set out on an expedition to Luofu Mountain in Huizhou.
This was no ordinary hike. We had a specific mission: to field-test the AI exoskeleton assistive robot developed by our team.
01 A Planned Test That Became an Unexpected Challenge
Luofu Mountain, long celebrated as the “No. 1 Mountain of Lingnan,” features Feiyun Peak — its main summit at 1,296 meters — and an endless, winding staircase that vanishes into the distance. It is the perfect proving ground for any climber's stamina and willpower.
For us, it was even more: a natural laboratory to evaluate how the Plankexa AI exoskeleton performs under real-world, complex mountain terrain.
When we set off at 9 a.m., the forecast already called for rain. Arriving at the trailhead, we looked up to see the peaks half-hidden in thin mist. We exchanged a knowing glance — the plan stood. This would be the perfect opportunity to test the device's stability and assistance on wet, unpredictable terrain.
We each suited up in our “black-tech” gear — the Plankexa AI exoskeleton robot. Lightweight and snug, once powered on, you could distinctly feel an upward thrust in your legs. Climbing stairs, in particular, produced a remarkable sensation of having your legs lifted for you.

02 The First Stretch: Immediately Feeling the Difference
Xingtian led the way with a steady stride, occasionally glancing back to check on everyone. Our two colleagues followed closely behind. As we climbed, we exchanged real-time performance data through the device's built-in feedback system.
As the only woman on the team, I was initially concerned about the fitness gap. But once I adjusted the assistance level to the right intensity, climbing uphill became remarkably manageable. The phrase “empowered by technology” had never felt so real.
03 On the Trail, the Most Frequent Question: “Does This Actually Work?”
With the devices on, we bounded up the trail, almost forgetting we were climbing an endless staircase. Fellow hikers kept stopping us to ask what we were wearing — did it really help with climbing? Honestly, had we not been experiencing it ourselves, we might have wondered the same thing.

04 We Thought the Stairs Would Be the Hardest Part — Then Came the Rainstorm
If the first half was about testing the device, the second half became a test of both the device and the people wearing it.
About halfway up, we decided to stop at a small pavilion before Haohan Slope to eat and recharge, then push for the summit in one final effort.
Just as we were happily eating, the skies opened up. The already overcast weather turned worse, and we could barely see the road ahead. Fortunately, the downpour lasted only about ten minutes. Once it passed, we put our gear back on, shouldered our packs, and pressed on.
05 The Rain Grew Heavier — and So Did Our Resolve
But we had barely covered 300 meters when the rain struck again without warning. The four of us scrambled to open umbrellas or pull on rain jackets.
Truth be told, the rain caught us completely off guard. Raincoats and umbrellas did nothing to keep our shoes and pants from getting soaked. Through the curtain of rain, mist swirled around us like something out of a fairy tale — but it also meant visibility was dropping fast and the trail was getting slicker by the minute. We steeled ourselves and pushed forward with even greater caution.
The sudden storm cranked the difficulty level up several notches. Yet with the AI exoskeleton providing constant assistance, we never considered stopping.
Hiking through a downpour carries a kind of heroic, almost tragic romance. Rain ran off the edges of our ponchos; the rush of streams below blended with the drumming of rain on leaves. Out there in the vastness, the four of us found a deepened sense of solidarity — a shared determination that we would not call ourselves true mountaineers until we reached the top.
Xingtian kept reminding everyone to watch their footing. We checked and re-checked each other's devices for water resistance. In that moment, colleagues became comrades in arms.
06 Reaching the Summit of Feiyun Peak: The Test Had Its Answer
After more than four grueling hours, we finally reached the summit of Feiyun Peak — wind, rain, and all. We were drenched in a mix of sweat and rainwater, looking thoroughly disheveled. But the wind that greeted us at the top carried the exhilaration of conquest.
Finally, braving the rain, we took a group photo in front of the “Feiyun Peak” stone marker. No carefully applied makeup — just the most genuine, radiant smiles, washed clean by the rain.
More Than Just Data: What This Experience Gave Us
Looking back, what we gained that day was far more than data.
The AI exoskeleton lightened the burden of the climb, and the companions by our side added a warmth that the rain could never wash away.
In harsh weather, we looked out for one another, reminded each other to stay safe, and not a single person chose to stop. The device held up to the test of real mountain trails, and the team came together in seamless cooperation.
